Transporting bottles of wine in just a cardboard box is actually quite dangerous. The risk of the bottle breaking is very high, which would be a waste of course. In addition, the wine that spills out of the bottle may destroy other people's goods in shipment. And there is always the danger of someone opening the box and cutting themselves on a piece of glass. Hence, it is very important to make sure you send your bottles in specially designed wine shippers. Even if you are simply carrying your bottles, using cardboard is a risky business. It is all too easy for cardboard to get slight wet, thereby losing its strength and breaking, perhaps while you are carrying bottles. A wine shipper is made out of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) foam. This means the bottles are properly cradled when inside the shipper. The outside of the shipper is made from corrugated carton. This adds strength and durability. EPS foam is lightweight and very strong, so that fragile products are fully protected at all times.
